Baked Pierogi & Kielbasa Casserole
This Baked Pierogi & Kielbasa Casserole is an easy, comforting dinner made with frozen pierogies, smoky kielbasa, creamy mushroom sauce, and melted cheddar cheese. With minimal prep, it is a convenient option for a busy weeknight.
Ingredients
- 2 (16-ounce) boxes frozen potato and cheese pierogies
- 1 pound smoked kielbasa or Polish sausage, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
- 2 cups heavy cream or half-and-half
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer the Pierogies: Arrange the frozen pierogies in a mostly single layer in the prepared dish.
- Add the Kielbasa: Spread the sliced kielbasa evenly over the pierogies.
- Make the Sauce: Whisk together the heavy cream and cream of mushroom soup until smooth.
- Assemble: Pour the sauce evenly over the pierogies and kielbasa. Sprinkle 1½ cups of cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake Covered: Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Finish Baking: Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar over the top. Bake uncovered for another 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and lightly golden and the kielbasa edges are browned.
- Rest and Serve: Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Helpful Tip
For extra flavor, briefly pan-fry the sliced kielbasa for 3–4 minutes before adding it to the casserole. This gives the sausage a lightly browned, caramelized exterior.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat until heated through.
