Alabama-Style Firecrackers

These seasoned crackers are a classic Southern snack, loved for their bold, spicy flavor and savory herb coating. By letting them “marinate” overnight, the seasoning soaks deep into every cracker, creating an irresistibly tasty treat.

 

Ingredients

  • 1 box (12 oz) Saltine or Ritz-style crackers
  • ¾ cup Olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 3 tablespoons Chili flakes (adjust for heat)

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the crackers
Place the crackers in a large, gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Using a bag helps coat them thoroughly without breaking.

Step 2: Add the oil
Pour the olive oil over the crackers. Seal the bag and gently toss until all crackers are evenly coated and glistening. This ensures the seasonings stick properly.

Step 3: Season
Add the Italian seasoning and chili flakes. Reseal the bag and shake, flipping multiple times so the herbs and spices are evenly distributed.

Step 4: Marinate overnight
Leave the sealed bag at room temperature overnight. Flip it occasionally to redistribute the oil and seasoning. This step allows the flavors to fully penetrate the crackers without making them soggy.

Step 5: Serve
Enjoy the firecrackers the next day! They’re perfect on their own or paired with a cold drink to balance the heat.
